  1. The practical approach laid out here for beginners really makes me wonder what’s the best balance between building skills and stocking gear early on? It seems easy to get caught up in buying tools without first learning how to truly use them. Do you think it’s smarter to prioritize mindset and wilderness knowledge over material preparedness at first? Also, with so many beginner guides out there, what would you say truly sets a reliable one apart from the rest: real-life experience, adaptability, or simplicity in instruction?

    1. Hi Slavisa! Thanks for your comment. I agree that there are so many ways to prioritize survival planning. If you proceed to the next post in the Beginner Series, https://goldensurvivalist.com/, called Needs Evaluation, it covers mindset and knowledge. The next post, Emergency Scenarios, follows,  before I cover the basic kits. I’m trying to cover all the pain points that we seniors need to acknowledge.

  2. Being a senior myself, I have went through a lot of this myself.  I have lived thru earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters.  And being prepared is KEY.  My first hurricane, I learned the hard way.  Always, always prepare before hand and have everything you could possibly need for at least a week.  I know when I did get to the store, the shelves were bare, the gas stations had no gas, it was kind of a nightmare for me.  Saved by the community in the end, but preparing for any disaster, even including a medical emergency is something all seniors need to do.  Keep on posting, i know there are plenty of seniors who need to read this information!

    1. Thanks for your comment, Leahrae! I’m glad you had a community to rely on. Where was the hurricane? I see you are from Florida like me 🙂
